Tommy Lam

July 14, 2023, HKUMed's Bioinformatician Dr Tommy Lam was awarded the Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award (鐘南山青年科技創新獎)

Dr Tommy Lam was awarded the Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award at the 2nd Zhong Nanshan Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award Ceremony. At the ceremony, Dr Lam shared 'University of Hong Kong re-started the Bioinformatics programme last year, attracting exceptional students globally.' Dr Lam also said 'The current students demonstrate strong capabilities and enthusiasm for scientific research, which instills in me a sense of confidence in our nation's future talent pool.'

May 12, Visit to True Light Middle School of Hong Kong  

Dr Joshua Ho joined the HKU admission team to visit the True Middle School of Hong Kong. He gave a talk to 65 secondary school students on the future of big data, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics to medicine and healthcare. A first-year HKU MBBS student also shared his experience in deciding to study at HKUMed.

Teachers' Taster

Apr 28, Taster Lecture for Teachers  

 

The lecture was open to local secondary school teachers and we hoped after the lecture, they would be able to teach bioinformatics in classrooms or introduce BSc(Bioinformatics) to their students as one of their programme choices in tertiary education. It is one of our important outreach activities to engage teachers and prospective students to admit to our newly launched BSc(Bioinformatics) programme. 

Intenatinal Taster Programme

Targeting International student recruitment, this programme provides hands-on activity on AI Medicine in addition to the bioinformatics talks introducing highlights and careers for being a bioinformatician.

Gleneagles Hospital

Mar 3, 2023 Visit to Gleneagles Hospital  

 

Visit to Gleneagles Hospital allowed students to have an exposure to cutting-edge advancements of their Pharmacy section. They could learn how they can apply Artificial Intelligence as practical health technology. Stay tuned for our updates!

Admissions Talk

Nov 3 - 4, 2022 Admissions Talk  

 

Our HKU Bioinformatics team recently gave two admission talks at two different secondary schools. We shared about how computational methods are used to reconstruct the past evolutionary history of organisms, including tracing the evolution of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. Students were excited to learn how sequence data could be used in biomedical applications.

Info Day

Oct 29, 2022 HKU information Day 2022 

 

We're excited to invite you to the HKU Info Day on 29 October 2022 (Sat). Not only can you visit our latest buildings and facilities, but you can also join our BSc(Bioinformatics) admissions talk at 12:00 noon which introduce programme details and admissions requirements. In addition, you can take an admissions consultation to have your questions answered by our teachers and student representatives.

 

We'll also have BSc(Bioinformatics) Demonstrations for you to experience the fun and opportunities offered by BSc(Bioinformatics).

October to November, 2022 Bioinformatics Taster Lecture and Admission Talk for Prospective Schools and Students

To offer prospective students the opportunity to learn more about our undergraduate programme and to stimulate students’ interests in bioinformatics, we will organise a one-hour Taster Lecture and Admission Talk to introduce bioinformatics, career pathways, and admission requirements every year from October to November. If we receive request from schools, our academic staff are also happy to meet with their school’s career advisors and teachers to discuss on the programme details and the exciting career prospect of a bioinformatician.
